portrait with two candles
This is something between a placeholder and the first post I’ve made here. This will probably develop into…something. Carrying around a digital camera regularly is a practice I didn’t develop until after attending the American Film Institute. I bought a Canon 7D shortly after undergrad, and it received a lot of use for video and filmmaking. When I traveled with the camera, I recorded video of my adventures with Yulin. It traveled from CA to PA, stopping in Kansas to see Yulin’s old apartment. I didn't start using the camera for stills until our 1 year anniversary when the camera came to Italy. That was the beginning of the end for the 7D.
Unfortunately, while walking back from the market in Rome, a bottle of pomegranate scented body wash opened in a bad and completely soaked the 7D. I managed to clean it out and get it working again by the end of the trip in Scotland about 1 week later, but it was never the same.
I had a little photoshoot during the last few days of the trip in Edinburgh, but the camera was effectively retired and I started looking for a replacement.
This portrait of Yulin was made with the light of 2 candles in the small attic room of our Edinburgh apartment. It’s one of my favorite images of her, and was used as her author photo for How To End A Love Story
